An exclusive car or an adult plaything, the Renault Spider is
more at ease on the racetrack than on the open road. When the
specialists, Power System, tackle a “faster than the wind” version,
then that really takes your breath away!
Our impressions :
Driving a Spider is great fun. With his hair blowing in the
wind, directly in contact with the road surface, the driver quickly
thinks he is a frustrated pilot. “Test driving” one, however, smacks
of the impossible. To engage the V-Max is like putting your head
voluntarily in a washing machine and trying standing starts is a test
of your spine... With this Power System version, the premise is even
more convincing. With more torque at low revs and more liveliness at
high revs, the 4 cylinders of the Williams Clio and other Mégane coupes
gain right across the board, for increased pleasure. At the same revs as
the factory standard versions, there is an increase of 11 bhp in power and
1 mkg in torque. Not much, but enough to show on well-made clocks. While
overtaking is not transformed, because of atmospheric multi-valves, it
nevertheless shows all the docility of a wild beast above 3000 rpm. And
in terms of pure acceleration: what a punch! Once past 4500 rpm, the rev
counter’s needle really flies, right up to the breaker set at 6900 rpm. In
terms of top speed, at 222 on the speedo, the field of vision is a little
disconcerting but the results are there, with a good 212 on the clock. Clinging
to the ground, the Spider prepared by Power System provides raw power and fun.
At under 2500 Francs, purchasing the POWER SYSTEM box is a must..
